Dutch Colonial Modern is a project that combines contemporary materials with a gesture toward rustic plantings. The design called for rain gardens as well as native plants. The existing conditions of the yard were post-construction of an addition to the house. The soil was compacted and in bad shape. The home also needed to find a way to address water from a sump pump. The master plan created a double rain garden to capture water from the sump pump as well as rainwater. They are planted with flowering perennials and framed with a salvaged fence. The fence helps blur the line between new and old with the final installation.
