Next year is the year of interior landscape design, so help give your gardenista the gift of a living wall this holiday to help them stay ahead of the curve. There are huge benefits of gardening inside your home, office, restaurant, retail space, gym and even car.  Plants reduce stress, stimulate concentration, purify air and add beauty.  Though the beneficial attributes vary based on plant type and number, the variety of species available for interiors is much greater than when planting outdoors.
That said, why not give a living wall to someone that would love a little more nature in their life?  Living walls, also known as green walls & wall mounted planters, come in sizes from massive 60ft tall installations to smaller versions around 2ft tall.  Once mounted to a wall, they can grow herbs, ferns, flowers and a host of other plants.  Here are a few of the better ready to plant green walls on the market.

Williams-Sonoma makes a very nice green wall planter that also doubles as a chalkboard.  You can put it in a kitchen planted with herbs and still have a place to write a recipe.  This model could just as easily go in a living room or bathroom for a little pop of life.  It’s not too big for the beginner green waller and should be a snap to manage.

Another option, at around the same size as the Williams-Sonoma, is a green wall by Grovert.  The system measures 20inches x 20inches x 2.5inches.  It’s an ideal selection if you want to add to the green wall over time to make it bigger and bigger.  The thin depth of the product means you will want shallow rooting plants like sedums and succulents.  It’s a bit more of an effort to install, because you’ll need a dripline versus being able to hand water the green wall.

If you want give a green wall system that can go in or outdoors,  look no farther than the Wally One living wall planter.  Made by Woollypocket and distributed throughout the world, Wally One measures 15inches by 24inches making it sizable enough for any room in the house.  The durable materials allow it to also go outside onto a deck or patio.

The biggest part to making any living wall system a huge success is the plants that go into them.  If you have questions about which plants are best for any situation, we offer onsite consultations within select areas (and Skype or telephone consultations outside of our select areas) for $75.  We’ll also help determine the cost of any planting ideas to create a unique and living wall sensation.
