Less Driveway is More - Part 2

Continuing from our last newsletter, this month we wanted to update you on a project where we took the driveway seen below and reimagined it into a more meaningful space for its owners. These renovations have benefits to the families living in the homes as well as to the surrounding environment and help to address some of the impacts from climate change. This project is currently in progress, so we don't have the final photos yet, however, here's a behind-the-scenes look at the process as it happens!

Since most driveways are barely used, besides the front portion where a car is often parked, redesigning this area into something more useful is an ideal way to gain more usable space on your property. This house in particular, with its large, unused, detached garage and long winding drive, is the perfect project to showcase the benefits of such a transition. The before shots of the home (above) show how nearly half of the yard is covered in blacktop, so by removing it we almost double this families living space. The plan here was to redesign this backyard by replacing a large chunk of drive with an eco-friendly lawn, native plants, and a more decorative patio area, as seen below.

With the final product looking something like this.

We created new planting areas, filled with lots of native perennials and grasses and a contemporary sitting area near the garage using these cool black and white pavers.

Once the blacktop was out and the seating area was in, the space was totally transformed into a place this family is going to actually use and enjoy. Creating sustainable spaces like this are what we live for! We look forward to showing you the finished product.
