The past week has been a really great time for designing spaces that sometimes are left unattended. On Sept 30, 2018, we were part of a very cool event called the Resource Home Show where designers, architects and other creative had a chance to get to know local homeowners.
For the event, we designed and installed a Living Wall. The living wall was made of about 70 plants including grasses and perennials.I loved the entire process of creating the wall and having it on display. It was the first time we had created a green wall for an event such as this, but I hope it’s not the last.

Living walls have many benefits from helping to reduce stress to cleaning the air. I always think of living walls being something that is for an interior of a building or space. But they can go outdoors as well.

Cost of Living Walls
The cost of a green wall varies based on how involved it is. Some systems can self-water and self-feed while others need manual maintenance. These factors have a big impact on the final price.  For me, I think they are really amazing no matter the extra care of self-sustaining features.

The tricky thing about doing a green wall of an event is that usually these types of walls are created to stay in one place and mature. We had to basically build the wall twice. We actually thought of using pallets for the frame, but after exploring that idea decided they would be more work than just starting from scratch. The most important thing was make sure everything was placed correctly and that it made a really strong impression. Then we had to disassemble it, transport it to the event, rebuild it and then disassemble it again the same day. To make all of this movement easy, we created a simple frame covered in felt. Then we used several types of plants that could manage the stress of so much moving here and there.
