Silphium terebinthinaceum, commonly known as Prairie Dock, is a member of the Asteraceae, a family that includes the sunflower. Prairie dock is a perennial that is Native to North America, which produces nearly leafless stems and 2-3" yellow flowers.
 | Prairie dock often grows up to 9 feet tall and enjoys full sun and medium-wet soil. It blooms in July, August and September and attracts bees but due to its spiky, sandpaper-like leaves it is both deer and rabbit resistant. It attracts butterflies and bees and its drought tolerant.  |
