Last week, I posted a blog about selecting the right paver for your project by walking you through an active job I have. This week, I wanted to follow that up with how everything turned out. In my opinion, this is exactly how any project should go. It really is a full-scope design approach with excellent installation.

Every project needs to run smoothly. With some many things that can go wrong with exterior work, it takes an eye for detail to hit as few bumps as possible. From rain & other weather conditions to delivery of specific materials and a more collaborative methodology for design, you are going to have snags. If anything about this project teaches a lesson, it is that communication is absolutely necessary for success.

Short recap: this project was primarily focused on designing and installing a walkway for the front yard of a Victorian house. The walkway had two different sized pavers in two different colors. Everything had to be discussed with the owners and then shown with some kind of document to make sure that everything talked about was being visualized the same for everyone too. Read Part 1 of Selecting the Right Paver here.

I spent some time with the owner to draw out the form of the walkway with white and orange spray paint. Then, I translated that field sketch into an actual drawing of the walkway with dimensions and color variance for the final installation as shown in image above. I sent the drawing to the client and made 100% sure we were all on the same page before we started construction. After review, it was all thumbs up and moving forward.

Little note about timing of all this: we met onsite to draw the walkway out on Tuesday. I emailed the actual document to her the same day. Owner confirmed it on Tuesday as well with a small change noted. Wednesday we were installing everything. By Friday, the entire project was completed. Though there is lots of conversation about projects, the timeline doesn’t suffer as long as decisions can be made in a timely manner.

The final results look amazing! The way the dark and light colors fade into each other is bold but not overpowering. The lines made by the pavers and the cuts to the pavers is just freaking awesome! The owner and her family are really excited about it, and mentioned that it blends in with the existing house. I agree. As the plantings grow in that we have selected, it will only look more and more beautiful. Above is an image that I've highlighted how the lines of the house, driveway and walk all work together. The walkway really frames the planting bed nicely.

With this project in the books, we are on to others. Check out our Instagram account to see photos from other projects as we go.
